Roundtable Discussion: Internships

The I-WIN conversation on internships discussed providing credit for internships completed outside of traditional courses and the capacity of teachers to support the scaling of internships. A few insights shared include:

  • Valley View School District added a CTE course called AfterForce they are piloting this Fall 2024 which includes a minimum of 30 hours of community service, internship, work, or job shadowing per semester at an approved training station.
  • DePaul University offers career and life design courses through their career center where students can attach an internship that is not connected to a class.
  • Illinois Virtual Schools and Academy offers a virtual Workplace and Internship Readiness course designed to equip students with the essential employability skills needed to thrive in the modern workplace.
