An Overview of Resources

Work-Based Learning Continuum for Education

The following resource is compiled of models across the work-based learning continuum from communities throughout Illinois to offer high-quality experiences in education. We hope school districts and their partners can utilize, repurpose, and apply these models to support the design and implementation of work-based learning experiences aligned to an education pathway.

Plainfield District 202 worked with students to create a promotional video about the education pathway to show students before the course request season.
Educators Share Their Stories of Teaching in Central Illinois: Central Illinois educators share their stories of why and how they started their careers. Their experiences helped shape their future and they aim every day to do the same for their students. Additional videos about non-teaching opportunities in the education pathway include:
Teach Central Illinois has resources for students and parents to learn about what it means to be an educator.
Rockford Public Schools, through a partnership with Alignment Rockford and Rockford University, developed videos to explore careers in education, including:

Educators Rising – Suggested Activities for Observing and Interviewing Educators
Crete-Monee High School: Educators Rising Club design overview, recruitment flyer, and Practera walkthrough
VALEES, Waubonsee Community College, and Northern Illinois University held a Future Teachers Conference for high school students to learn about careers in education (includes an article about the model and the conference agenda)

Remote Learning from the Student and Teacher Perspective – Morrison High School
Ridgewood High School hosts regional team-based challenges:
- Topics in education
  - Competition topic rubrics: High School, Elementary, and Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
  - After action analysis
- Recommendations on AI policies
  - Event overview
  - Insights and recommendations gathered from students

Morrison High School Educator Pathway Experience:
- Education Pathway Experience Syllabus: describes the year-long internship course where students will be placed each quarter with an educator in the district to learn and experience what a career in education is like in that position and with certain grades.
- Placement Teacher Agreement: This agreement provides details of responsibilities for teachers who are hosting students in their classrooms.
- Competency Rubric: Includes the State’s Recommended Technical and Essential Employability Competencies.

Educators Rising – Suggested Activities for Assisting Educators and Teaching Internships

Rock Falls High School Education pathway students share about their 60-hour experiences.
