Transfer Partnerships: Best Practices for Transfer Student Success

On October 8, 2024, the Illinois Education and Career Success Network hosted a free webinar on best practices for institutional partnerships, promoting transfer, and supporting transfer student success. A panel of experienced transfer specialists provided an overview of partnerships in Illinois and within their institutions. The panel included:

  • Dena Lawrence, Senior Project Coordinator, Illinois MyCreditsTransfer
  • Holly Pflum, Assistant Director Transfer Outreach and Initiatives, University of Illinois System
  • Kristin Smigielski, Dean of Enrollment Management, Parkland College
  • Agnes Szemborski, Assistant Vice Chancellor for External Relations, Southern Illinois University Carbondale
  • Sean Warren-Crouch, Director of College Transitions, Harper College

These leaders are shifting the burden from students to the system using various strategies, including personalized advising, developing data-sharing agreements, and providing financial aid support to ensure that students, especially those from underrepresented communities, succeed in pursuing their postsecondary goals.
