Launch: Equitable and Accelerated Pathways for All

In 2023, Illinois was selected as one of five states participating in the innovation cohort of Launch: Equitable & Accelerated Pathways for All. Launch is a national college and career pathways initiative that strives for every learner to have access to and succeed in high-quality and equitable pathways. Launch seeks to challenge systemic inequities by building systems-level, next-generation solutions, providing timely and customized technical assistance, sharing lessons learned, and inspiring action and progress nationally. Since its inception, the initiative has grown to include a total of 14 states across the innovation and impact cohorts.

Our Role

EdSystems leads the Illinois team, working in partnership with state and local organizations and institutions to enhance statewide efforts to reduce barriers and increase accessibility to college and career pathways for every learner.

Through a two-year process (2023–2025), the team is engaging in a design thinking exercise to identify systems-level barriers to equitable access and outcomes and develop next-generation solutions for some of the most pressing challenges in college and career pathways. The process includes empathy research and data collection to gather local voices and experiences from learners and families and will conclude with the development of a pilot project that will be ready for testing and scaling within each state and eventually shared nationally.

The Illinois team is particularly focused on designing seamless solutions that support learners’ transitions from high school to postsecondary institutions, shifting the burden from students and their families to the system.
