Unified for Success: The Next Generation of Illinois’ Programs of Study

Since 2020, EdSystems has partnered with the Illinois Community College Board (ICCB) to create the State of Illinois Model Programs of Study Guides to help local educators build clear pathways from high school into college and careers. At the same time, the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) maintained secondary CTE frameworks.

Now, we’re bringing those parallel efforts together into a single, unified framework—streamlining pathway design from K-12 to college and careers. ICCB, ISBE, and EdSystems hosted a webinar on August 31, 2026, to release for public comment the first three unified Model Programs of Study Guides, reflecting updated alignment between K-12 and postsecondary systems as well as the National Career Clusters® Framework.

The draft guides are available for public comment now through September 30, 2026.

Whether you’re building high school CTE sequences, expanding dual credit opportunities, or aligning postsecondary programs with regional industry needs, this unified approach makes pathway design clearer and more consistent across Illinois. In the webinar recording, learn:

  • How the new unified framework aligns middle school, secondary, and postsecondary pathways with high-demand industries.
  • How dual credit and CTE course sequences fit into the new design.
  • Practical guidance for schools, districts, and colleges to begin adopting the model.
  • How to participate in the public comment period to share your feedback before the guides are finalized.
