On October 19-20 2015, the Illinois 60 by 25 Network and the IT Learning Exchange hosted a 2 day information technology work-based learning workshop for Leadership Communities in Illinois. The workshop focused on building cross-sector partnerships with employers and creating opportunities for students to participate in work-based learning programs such as internships or job shadowing. The primary objective of the workshop was to create a framework for developing a IT work-based learning model based on experiences from the Early College STEM schools in Chicago and the model of Work-based Learning Continuum developed by the IT learning exchange. To further assist with developing an IT work-based learning model employer partners who have been working with Early College STEM schools were asked to speak on necessary components for developing a successful internship. Afterwards communities were able to begin creating a local framework for bringing more IT internships and other work-based learning opportunities to students with the help of curriculum experts and employers.
